New home test drive initiative success as Townsville couple say ‘yes’

A Townsville couple so enjoyed their “try before you buy” night in an Australian-first marketing campaign at the award-winning The Village residential development that they have bought their dream block.

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick congratulated Lauren Miller and Guy Tabinor on their purchase and for taking part in the innovative marketing initiative – the first guests to do so.

“The New Home Test Drive gives genuine prospective home-buyers the chance to try before they buy by staying for a night or two in a brand-new home at the master-planned community at Oonoonba, three kilometres from the Townsville CBD,” he said.

“The thinking behind Economic Development Queensland’s concept is for potential buyers to make themselves at home to truly experience a taste of life in The Village for themselves.

“Economic Development Queensland is a market leader in creating connected liveable communities and attracting happy residents who love their community plays a big part in achieving that.

“By staying for a few nights in a brand-new home, completing their stay, a local couple have fast-tracked the purchase of their dream block of land at The Village in Oonoonba.

“It’s a fantastic way to take out some of the guesswork when purchasing that all-important first block of land.

“More importantly, from a planning perspective, it gives potential buyers a chance to get a feel for different home types before starting to design their own home, encouraging them to make smarter design and planning decisions that are right for them.

“This innovative concept is empowering good design decisions and helping make Queensland cities like Townsville better places to live, to work and to experience as guests.”

Member for Mundingburra Coralee O’Rourke said the New Home Test Drive is on offer by invitation only to genuine homebuyers who have shown interest in building at The Village.

“As EDQ’s flagship regional development, The Village offers innovation, affordability and housing diversity, and is all about creating a thriving community to call home, with a commitment to  prosperity, jobs and a sense of belonging for locals,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

Lauren and Guy said they were attracted to the New Home Test Drive by the chance to get to better know the community at The Village before they committed to buying.

“We’re currently living in [Townsville suburb of] Douglas and wanted to stay close to the Barracks for Guy, a solider currently serving in Afghanistan, and the location of The Village ticks that box,” she said.

“The New Home Test Drive gave us a chance to test the waters, explore all the parks in The Village, and just get an overall feel for being part of the community and the area.

“As first home-buyers, it’s a little daunting to say ‘yes’ to the next 30 years in one place, if you haven’t spent a single night there before, so we are very appreciative of the chance to try out The Village.

“The house itself was lovely. It was well equipped with all the things we needed to make it feel like our very own home. We’re so excited that we have been able to try this home and The Village out. We were so excited to make The Village our forever home, we signed a contract for our block of land on the spot.”

All New Home Test Drive participants are encouraged to make the most of their stay at The Village, with the home fitted with bicycles, picnic basket and rug, event calendar and more.
