World-class Yeppoon Lagoon Precinct Officially opens

Yeppoon’s foreshore has been dramatically transformed into a $53 million world-class community space for locals and visitors with the official opening of the highly-anticipated Yeppoon Lagoon Precinct.

Assistant Minister for Education and Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga yesterday officially opened the stunning new public space with Livingstone Mayor Bill Ludwig.

“This is a landmark project for Yeppoon and the surrounding area that will boost tourism and the local economy while supporting local jobs,” Mrs Laugua said.

“The Palaszczuk Government invested $29 million dollars in this once-in-a-lifetime development in another huge vote of confidence in the Yeppoon community.

“It’s fitting this opening is being celebrated together, along with Yeppoon’s 150 Year Anniversary.”

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the project would boost the Capricorn Coast’s tourism industry.

“This precinct is loaded with family-friendly activities such as water play areas, a beach amphitheatre, playgrounds and better access for all,” he said.

“It will be a magnet for visitors and a must-see attraction for anyone in the region.”

Mayor Bill Ludwig said it the was fantastic to celebrate a significant milestone in Livingstone’s history.

“As we’ve seen Stage 3, 4 and now 5 of the Yeppoon Town Centre and Foreshore Revitalisation Project unfold in just over two-and-half-years, this world-class facility aptly completes this fantastic and major infrastructure development, dramatically transforming Yeppoon’s foreshore,” Mayor Ludwig said.

“I commend the Queensland and Australian Governments for their firm support of the Yeppoon Foreshore and Town Centre Revitalisation Project, for their joint investment in the critical infrastructure needed to further drive local job creation and enhance liveability for local residents.”

The Palaszczuk Government contributed $29 million towards the project through its $600 million Works for Queensland regional infrastructure program. The Livingstone Shire contributed $14 million to the project and the Australian Government committed $10 million.
