Works start on Water and Walker Street

Motorists will experience a quicker, safer journey through the Walker and Water streets intersection in Bundaberg thanks to a $270,600 Palaszczuk Government investment.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the works, which will improve two of Bundaberg’s busiest streets, began recently.

“We will install a separated right-turn lane on Walker Street, in the eastbound direction, turning into Water Street south,” Mr Bailey said.

“This will divide through and turning vehicles and keep everyone moving.

“An average of almost 16,000 vehicles travel on Walker Street every day, so this upgrade is paramount to the safety of locals.

“Anyone who has parked at Bronson’s Vet understands why the Palaszczuk Government is funding this upgrade.

“We’re also changing the all-movement intersection to left-in, left-out only access at Water Street north.

“The works will take about one month to complete and to minimise disruption, the work will be undertaken at night when there are less locals on the road.

“You should allow additional travel time and take care when travelling through the site.”

Funding has been allocated under the Safer Roads Sooner program.

“The program provides funding on a priority basis to high-benefit, cost-effective projects that address both known and potential high severity crash sites on state-controlled roads,” Mr Bailey said.
