Three potential sites selected for Cape Gloucester boat ramp

The Palaszczuk Government has responded to calls from the North Queensland community and has announced three potential sites for a new boat ramp in the Cape Gloucester area.

Locals are now able to have their say on plans for a new or upgraded ramp with consultation opening today.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government was aware of the need for improved boating facilities in the area.

“Local boaties have been managing with the existing single lane boat ramp at Dingo Beach but we know they have been asking for improved launching facilities since 2011,’’ Mr Bailey said.

‘‘We have listened to these concerns and have a shortlist of three potential sites for a new or upgraded boat ramp.

‘‘Locations being considered include Black Currant Island near Hideaway Bay, Dingo Beach and the Frog Rock area on the west coast of Cape Gloucester.’’

Mr Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to delivering a new or upgraded boating facility in partnership with the Whitsunday Regional Council.

‘‘We now need the community’s help to progress this project,’’ he said.

‘‘We’d like to hear from locals, boaties and any interested parties on which site they prefer.

‘‘Community members will have a number of ways to have their say including the Get Involved online survey, email/paper submissions and face-to-face meetings with key stakeholders.

“I encourage everyone in the Cape Gloucester area to jump online and have their say.’’

Community consultation will be open from May 14 to June 14.
