    Taxi service licence restrictions removed

Taxi service licence holders are no longer subject to high occupancy, owner/driver and green vehicle restrictions.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the changes, effective immediately, were a continuation of the state government’s personalised transport reforms.

“This is another step in removing unnecessary regulation on the taxi industry and improves consistency and simplicity of conditions for service licence holders,” Mr Bailey said.

“This allows industry greater flexibility to determine fleet needs in response to market requirements.

“Taxi industry participants are voluntarily moving toward the use of green or hybrid vehicles which are generally more cost effective to operate, removing the need for the government to regulate their use.

“To ensure service levels are protected, Wheelchair Accessible Taxi conditions will remain in place.”

Mr Bailey said the changes would apply to over 300 taxi service licences across Queensland.

“Removing these regulations promotes the ability of the taxi industry to respond to the demands of their local area,” he said.

“The Transport and Other Legislation (Personalised Transport Reform) Amendment Bill 2017 has been introduced into Parliament and will pave the way for a modern and competitive personalised transport industry in Queensland for the years to come.”
