Statement on the AFL Women’s Grand Final

We are all extremely proud of our undefeated Brisbane Lions, and congratulate them on progressing to the inaugural AFL Womens Grand Final.

Stadiums Queensland and the AFL have been working tirelessly over the weekend and keeping me updated.

Over the weekend I was also in contact with the CEO of the AFL and this morning I am meeting with Lions officials to update them on progress.

There is still more work to be done to assess the ground. An assessment is currently underway.

We have done everything possible to encourage the turf, but the speed at which the turf grows is outside of our control.

The experts' decision won’t come until later today. But whichever way the experts call it, I can assure Lions fans that no stone is being left unturned in our efforts to see the game played at the Gabba.
