Michael Byrne QC engaged as Parole Board President-Designate

The Palaszczuk Government has engaged Michael Byrne QC to serve as President-Designate for the Parole Board to oversee the establishment of the new Board, its secretariat and work processes.

Mr Byrne has an extensive practice in all levels of the judicial system and previously served as Commissioner for the Queensland Organised Crime Commission of Inquiry.

As part of the Sofronoff review into the parole system, the Government has accepted the recommendations to establish a new, independent, professional Parole Board.

Legislation to establish this Board will be introduced into State Parliament today.

To start the planning for the new Board, the Government is appointing Mr Byrne as President-Designate for the Parole Board.
