Queensland’s outstanding achievers honoured
Arts Minister Ian Walker has congratulated Queensland’s top theatre productions and performers, recognised at the Matilda Awards held in Brisbane tonight.
“The wide spectrum of nominees and winners highlights the outstanding talent we have in Queensland theatre,” Mr Walker said.
“These are people who are at the top of their craft and have made an enormous contribution to Queensland theatre over many years.”
The Minister presented five Gold Matilda awards:
· actor Bryan Probets, who also won Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role
· designer Simone Romaniuk
· actor/ writer/ director Helen Howard
· lighting designer David Walters
· writer/ director/ actor Margi Brown Ash
Other awards went to:
· Queensland Theatre Company’s Kelly for Best Mainstage Production
· A Tribute of Sorts by Benjamin Schostakowski won Best New Australian Work and Best Independent Production
· Dash Kruck and Emily Curtin, winning Best Male Actor and Best Female Actor in Leading Roles respectively.
Minister Walker said the Newman Government was proud to support the Matilda Awards.
“It’s very important to acknowledge these people in our arts community who work hard to provide Queenslanders with some of the best arts experiences in Australia,” he said.
“The Matilda Awards deliver on the Newman Government’s plan to make Queensland a vibrant arts and cultural hub.”
