Overseas Trade and Investment Commissioners tour Queensland

Regional and metropolitan businesses, including those impacted by recent floods, will be given direct access to the Government’s overseas Trade representatives who are visiting Queensland this week.

Treasurer and Minister for Trade Tim Nicholls welcomed Queensland’s overseas Trade and Investment Commissioners, and said international two-way trade was vital to the Queensland economy.

“Last financial year, Queensland’s total exports contributed almost $61 billion to the State’s bottom line,” Mr Nicholls said.

“Many industries have suffered major setbacks as a result of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald, particularly in the regions.

“These international representatives are here to ensure our businesses can continue exporting.

“As well as helping maintaining Queensland’s already-strong trade pathways and business ties, the Commissioners play a vital role in developing new opportunities for Queensland businesses.

“Each of the 17 international locations form part of the Government’s global network and provides Queensland businesses with an invaluable on-the-ground contact, enabling them to take their products and services to the world.”

Mr Nicholls said the Commissioners would use their visit to provide businesses and industry associations with direct insight into the global business environment.

“They will visit Bundaberg, Brisbane, Caboolture, Cairns, Gayndah, Gladstone, Emerald, the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Mackay, Rockhampton, Roma, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville,” he said.

“I encourage those businesses considering exporting to take part in this program.

“The Commissioners will return to their posts to assure markets that, despite a few tough months, Queensland is open for business.”
