Local Sunshine Coast shows receive State grants

Showgrounds across the Sunshine Coast – from Noosa to Kenilworth, Maleny to Caboolture – will receive a welcome funding injection totalling over $70,000 in grants.

Local Government Minister Desley Boyle announced the funding, praising local organisations and show societies.

“Annual shows are very important events on the local calendar,” Ms Boyle said.

“They give locals another good reason to come out and have a good time, check out the displays, marvel at the competitions and bump into friends they haven’t seen for a while.

“The grants will help support next year’s round of show events, with plans no doubt well and truly underway.

“As well as hosting major community festivals and exhibitions, showgrounds around the State often double as key sporting and recreation precincts, with a wide variety of organisations using them regularly.

“For this reason, the funding can go towards keeping these community assets maintained and functional, as well as supporting the regional show program.”

Ms Boyle said the Bligh Government continued to be a strong supporter of events right around the State, with the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland featuring prominently.

“It is important that we work in partnership with communities across the Coast to ensure the long tradition of the local show keeps on going.”

The Bligh Government has committed a total of $2 million in 2009-10 for 131 show across the State.

Local shows to receive funding include:

·The Sunshine Coast Show Society - $37,190

·Caboolture & District Pastoral, Agricultural & Industrial Association - $20,233

·Maleny Show Society - $11,262
