ARTS PROJECTS DELIVER CREATIVITY ACROSS QUEENSLAND

Premier Anna Bligh today announced communities in Cape York and Thursday Island will experience Shakespeare with workshops by the award-winning Bell Shakespeare Company as one of 39 arts projects realised across Queensland.

Ms Bligh said $790,354 in Queensland government funding will create arts and cultural experiences throughout the state with projects spanning festivals, music, dance, design and theatre.

“Community choirs and vocalists in Chinchilla and Kingaroy can participate in singing workshops while the Regional Galleries Association of Queensland will embark on their first major touring exhibition curated entirely from Queensland’s public gallery collections,” Ms Bligh said.

“Twice each year, Arts Queensland’s Development and Presentation Grants are open to individual artists, collectives and arts organisations for new work, exhibitions, productions, industry development and cultural engagement activities.

“It’s great to see the variety of arts, artists and creative initiatives in this state and these grants help projects both large and small.

“Successful grants will go towards presenting music and community festivals in Cairns, Stradbroke Island and Sandgate; producing a new play for children and families in Bundaberg and Cairns; and recording assistance for up-and-coming Brisbane-based artists Hungry Kids of Hungary, The Rocketsmiths and Melissa Western.

“On the design front, Brisbane-based group Quench will represent Queensland at 100% Design Tokyo, an international industry trade fair, and the Design Institute of Australia will present a regional touring exhibition of the Queensland Design on Show Awards.”

Ms Bligh said funding was available as part of Arts Queensland’s Sector Project Grant program with applications for the next round of Development and Presentation grants closing 31 August.
