A two-day workshop on leadership skills for women will be held in Cherbourg next week, Minister for Women, Karen Struthers said today.
Minister Struthers said the Strong Voices Strong Women workshop (30 April – 1 May) would focus on leadership skills for women in the community.
“Few would disagree that Indigenous women are the real backbone of their community. Many times, they’re the ones holding the family together, guiding the younger ones and steering them through life’s challenges,” Ms Struthers said.
“The workshop will equip them with even more skills so that they can continue to inspire and guide the development of other women and girls in the community.
Minister Struthers said participants who complete the workshop would receive an accredited mentoring certificate.
“As well, units covered in the workshops can be accredited towards completion of the full Certificate IV in Government qualification offered through TAFE Queensland,” she said.
Ms Struthers said the workshops followed on from the highly successful Strong Voices – Strong Women Community Leadership Seminars.
“In these challenging economic times it’s more important than ever to have strong leaders who can mentor and motivate young people,” she said.
Similar workshops have been held in Mt Isa, Yarrabah, Woorabinda and Rockhampton – all conducted by the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE.
