Community safety has been boosted in Woodridge and Kingston, thanks to more police and a new police beat. The new neighbourhood police beat at 52 Ellen Street in Kingston was officially opened today by the Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, Robert Schwarten and the Minister for Police and Corrective Services, Judy Spence.
Ms Spence said more police were operating from the new beat, covering a larger area than the former Logan Central Plaza Police Shopfront.
"Four police are operating from the new beat, and they are also supplemented by police from the Logan Central police division that services the area," Ms Spence said.
"The beat will focus on local policing needs and police will work in partnership with the Woodridge and Kingston communities to enhance safety in the area."
The total project cost of the beat was $154,000 and has been funded through the Department of Housing's Community Renewal program.
Mr Schwarten said the police beat was funded by the State Government's Community Renewal program to address residents' concerns.
"Residents called for a neighbourhood police beat to improve local policing in their community," he said.
"Since the beat opened its doors on April 21, police have been active in the community, patrolling the area and responding to local call-outs."
Member for Woodridge, Desley Scott, said the neighbourhood police beat was a welcome addition to the Kingston and Woodridge communities.
"I'm delighted that we are receiving more police facilities to meet the needs of this growing community," Mrs Scott said.
"The Neighbourhood Police Beat in Loganlea is extremely successful and it is great to see one now operating in Kingston and Woodridge."
Community Renewal is a Queensland Government initiative coordinated by the Department of Housing.
Renewal activities in Kingston and Woodridge are run in conjunction with local residents, the Logan City Council, the Queensland Government and community agencies.
