Renewal Underway for Logan PCYC

A new basketball court and outdoor recreation area will be part of an extensive upgrade to the Logan City Police Citizens Youth Club Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, Robert Schwarten, today told State Parliament.

Mr Schwarten said $46,200 had been approved under the state government's Community Renewal Program to build new facilities at the PCYC in Jacaranda Avenue.

"The upgrade work which is expected to get underway next month will see a new basketball/multi-purpose playing court and an outdoor recreation area added to the PCYC," he said.

"A new barbecue area and undercover area for meetings and outdoor activities will also be built.

"The multi-purpose area will enable the PCYC to offer more outdoor activities to children and young people who attend its Outside School Hours Care and Vacation Care services."

Minister for Employment and Training and Member for Waterford, Tom Barton, said some of the works will be undertaken by Boystown through a Department of Employment and Training Community Jobs Plan project.

"This is a great way to give young people a chance to gain valuable hands-on experience," he said.

"The PCYC is a popular facility and with this upgrade it can provide a better recreational space for young people as well as an informal venue for community groups to meet."

Member for Woodridge, Desley Scott, said the project responded to the community's request for more recreational opportunities for young people in Logan.

"Community Renewal has provided a great recreational space for all community members in the Gould Adams Park Aquatic and Community Centre," she said.

"I'm delighted that Community Renewal is now giving young people an opportunity to play sports like basketball, tennis and volleyball at the PCYC."

Mrs Scott said the upgrade was expected to be completed by October.

Community Renewal is a state government initiative coordinated by the Department of Housing in conjunction with local residents, local council and other government and non-government organisations.
