ONE STOP JOBS SHOP A WINNER

The new Deception Bay Business and Employment Centre is helping create jobs for local residents according to Minister for State Development and Innovation, Tony McGrady and Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, Robert Schwarten.

Speaking at the official opening of the new centre Mr McGrady said it had already helped 78 locals find jobs.

"The Centre is a one-stop-shop for both jobseekers and businesses," Mr McGrady said.

"It works by matching the employment needs of local businesses with the skills of local people looking for work.

"This makes finding staff simpler and encourages businesses in the area to look locally."

The Centre brings together employment services from Mission Australia, Centrelink, Queensland Apprenticeship Services and other business services under one roof.

"We've already had several employers in the Narangba industrial estate agree to use the service to source employees, including trainees and apprentices," Mr McGrady said.

The centre is jointly funded by the Department of Housing's Community Renewal program, the Department of State Development and Innovation and the Caboolture Shire Council.

Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing Robert Schwarten said it was a Community Renewal project with a difference.

"This project focuses on developing the area's economy as opposed to developing a public space or a beautification project," Mr Schwarten said.

"It is already creating long term benefits and significant flow-on effects for the community."

Mr Schwarten said the Caboolture Shire was one of the fastest growing local government areas in Australia, and the new centre would ensure that Deception Bay residents shared in the wealth that will be generated by industrial, residential and population growth.

"This centre is one of many Community Renewal projects in Deception Bay helping residents to share in the State's growing prosperity as well as creating communities where people feel valued, safe and proud," Mr Schwarten said.

Community Renewal is a Queensland Government initiative coordinated through the Department of Housing in conjunction with local residents, the Caboolture Shire Council and other government and non-government agencies. Media Contact: 3224 4600
