Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, Robert Schwarten, today officially opened Morayfield's new Parent Liaison and Community Education Centre.Mr Schwarten who joined the Member for Pumicestone, Carryn Sullivan, at the event said the new $138,000 centre was delivered through the Community Renewal Program in Caboolture South.
He said the centre was already being used by Morayfield State School to hold parent teacher meetings, student counselling, workshops and other activities.
"In fact the whole community is taking advantage of the new facilities with Samoan language lessons and Aboriginal dance classes also being offered here," he said.
"The centre is proving to be a worthwhile project, bringing the local community together.
"It just shows what can be achieved when government's work with local residents to deliver new facilities that are truly beneficial to the local community. It is what Community Renewal is all about."
Mr Schwarten said the centre was built by QBuild's Sunshine Coast, Depot. During construction three apprentices gained valuable hands-on experience in the plumbing and carpentry trades.
Member for Pumicestone, Carryn Sullivan, said the new centre was an important milestone in the renewal of the Caboolture South area.
"The centre includes a meeting space with audio equipment, an office, professional services room, children's play area and kitchen," she said.
"I'm sure the outdoor barbecue area will be used for many sausage sizzles and family fun days.
"Local parents and residents really highlighted the need for a multi-purpose space like this. I'm delighted that through Community Renewal this has become a reality and is already proving to be such a success.
"Without the hardwork and dedication of the school community this project would not have got off the ground."
Mrs Sullivan said in total more than $3.3 million in Community Renewal funding had been approved for 50 projects.
Community Renewal is a Queensland Government initiative coordinated by the Department of Housing. Renewal activities in Caboolture South are run in conjunction with local residents, the Caboolture Shire Council and other government and non-government agencies.
