Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, Robert Schwarten with the Minister for Tourisms, Fair Trading and Wine Industry Development and Member for Albert, Margaret Keech, today officially opened the new $468,000 extension to the Eagleby Learning Centre.Mr Schwarten said the extra classrooms were state government funded through Community Renewal ($282,700) and Education Queensland ($185,300).
He said the new facilities would enable more Eagleby residents to undertake accredited vocational education and training at the centre.
"The new classrooms will help meet the demand for vocational education and training in the Eagleby Community," he said.
"The centre plays an important role in providing flexible learning options and opportunities for people to begin or return to work.
"Training delivered through the new facilities will meet demand in the local job market, increasing employment opportunities in their local area."
Ms Keech said the new building includes a general classroom, two information technology areas that open into one large classroom and a meeting room.
"Improving access to vocational educational and training is vital to the Beattie Government's Smart State agenda and is a key goal of Community Renewal in Eagleby," she said.
"It is important we offer more flexible pathways for people to enter or re-enter the workforce with knowledge, skills and confidence.
"TAFE Queensland will deliver most of the training programs, with the remainder run by private training providers."
Community Renewal is a Queensland Government initiative coordinated by the Department of Housing in conjunction with local residents, the Gold Coast City Council and other government and non-government agencies.
